Culminating Activity in Mrs. Merritt's Room

Mrs. Pricilla Merritt, a fourth-grade reading teacher at Sumter County Intermediate School, treated her students to a special celebration as a culminating activity after reading The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen. Since the main character in the story twirls doughnuts, students enjoyed doughnuts with sprinkles, fresh strawberries, and festive paper crowns. The classroom was filled with smiles and excitement as students celebrated their reading with this sweet and memorable activity.

Sumter County Intermediate School (SCIS) recently wrapped up its PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Kick-Off Week with an exciting celebration in the school gymnasium. SCIS administration led with an overview of the PBIS program, and then teachers along with students led the crowd in several chants. The highlight of the event was a powerful and inspiring message delivered by special guest speaker, Stephen Woodson, a local Truancy Prevention Officer who works closely with schools and families to support student success. Mr. Woodson energized the crowd of students with his enthusiasm and passion for education. His message encouraged students to reflect on their “WHY” — why good behavior matters, why regular attendance is essential, and why finding personal motivation leads to success. He also emphasized the importance of taking pride in their school and working together to build a strong, championship culture. Students cheered and clapped during his high-energy, motivational address. The celebration served as a meaningful conclusion to a week of themed activities that highlighted school spirit, teamwork, and the importance of positive behaviors at SCIS.

Floyd gives motivational note to select students.
Mr. Floyd's Teacher Note to Students

At Sumter County Intermediate School, Mr. Treven Floyd has introduced a simple yet meaningful way to motivate his 6th grade students. Each week, select students receive a handwritten note recognizing their outstanding behavior, effort, or academic achievement. The notes have quickly become a source of pride, with students looking forward to the possibility of being recognized. This positive practice not only encourages those who receive the notes but also inspires their classmates to put forth their best effort in the classroom.
